Biography
Michael Ballhaus (1935-2017) was a German cinematographer, known mostly for his work with influential directors such as Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Francis Ford Coppola, Robert Redford, Frank Oz, James L. Brooks, Barry Levinson, and his most common collaborator, Martin Scorsese. Ballhaus is widely admired as a key force behind Scorsese’s films during the 1980s and 1990s, most notably “Goodfellas.” Michael’s son, Florian, is also a cinematographer, known for “The Devil Wears Prada.”
